how i'm de-stressing and chilling tf out (or at least trying to)

I find it pretty ironic that I'm writing a post about de-stressing when I am stressed to the max at the moment. You've probably realised the sorta hiatus happening on this blog at the moment, and that will continue until revision and deadlines and exams are out of the way and I can actually enjoy my life again. Ofc this is making ya girl stressed af but in the times where I take a step back and apply some logic I realise I need to chill tf out and give myself some time to get rid of said stress without adding to the stress by feeling guilty for taking too much of a break, so I thought I'd share my methods in case they can be a bit of help, especially around the current dreaded exam season. Think of this as a how to de-stress when you absolutely cannot avoid doing the stressful task at hand.

dress to feel good about yourself but remember the white boy instagram caption of 'comfort is key🔑'

Pretty sure I made this same poor 'gram caption joke in this post but about consistency, lol soz. Anyway, when you're stressed tf out you're probably not going to feel amazing, so do things to make you feel good about yourself like doing some nice makeup or dressing up for yourself. On the chilling out side of things, keeping it comfy is always going to help you carry on chillin and killin, and if you've got to sit and revise all damn day a la every 16-20 something year old in the country right now, comfort really is key. NICCE's grey sweatshirt womens is my choice for style and comfort, the quality is 11/10, the jumpers have that warm, soft lining everyone loves inside and the design is absolutely a bit of me. I have this thing with jumpers where I will wear the same jumper for months straight after buying it until I move onto a new one next season, so I think this is my pick for the next few months.

try to balance unavoidable stress with something you love and enjoy

If you read this blog, follow me on any social media at all, know me, or even meet me for about three seconds you will know one fact about me. I bloody love to watch tennis. The clay portion of the tennis season always falls around revision and exam time, so for the last two years I've been revising to Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rio and Roland Garros, even some shitty ATP 250s like Munich and Estoril when I really need revision motivation. It's gotten to the point where my brain associates the two with each other, whenever the clay swing starts I know that if I haven't already started revising, I need to start and if I have already started revising, I need to take it up a gear or five. I struggle to watch a clay match without revising because it's almost innate to me now. Of course exams, and the revision that comes with them, are a form of stress you can't just get rid of if you want to actually pass and do well, so finding a way to balance this stress is always going to make the task at hand seem less stressful and get you more motivated to do it.

surround yourself with people who get it and drive you to do better

aka share the stress and realise that you're all in the same boat. In my post where I celebrated the importance of female friendships, I spoke about the ambitious friend who wants to succeed and drives you to the same, whether it's implicitly or explicitly, so having some of these in stressful times is always helpful. Whether they're in the same situ as you, they've experienced the same stressy boy drama in the past and can give you advice, they just get that you're stressed and will give you as much or as little space you need to accommodate that, or they know you need to chill tf out and will happily help with that, don't be in it alone.

prioritise, and don't beat yourself up about backseating something you want to prioritise but don't need to right now

Oh look, it's me with blogging! We know I used to be the world's worst blogger, to the point where I couldn't really warrant calling myself a blogger for probably a good two years. That's changed huge amounts in the last few months, and now it has to stop again. I remember I told myself (and y'all) I'd only rebrand my blog and get a Wordpress migration in Summer, post-exams, if I'd stuck to my new schedule about '90-95% of the time'. Of course I've had to temporarily abandon the schedule and go weeks without posting now, but that's because I need to be realistic with my priorities. My blog is probably my biggest non-necessity priority, and to me I see it as a necessity, but there have got to be times where I take a step back and realise I physically don't have time for, nor can I justify making time for writing two posts a week and shooting enough photos to fulfil that schedule. And ykno what? I'm ok with it. I know I want to blog, I know I love to blog, I know I have ideas and things to share, so I'm safe in the knowledge that I can easily pick that back up and share those ideas when I've gotten other things out of the way first that require my full attention. You add to the stress by feeling bad for backseating something you think deserves attention, and maybe it does deserve all that attention but it'll be worth the wait. Taking something off your plate temporarily whilst you try to manage your stress leaves you some more time to chill.

keep positivity and your happiness at the forefront of everything you're doing

It is a million times easier to deal with one single stressful aspect of your life when the rest of it is going well, so do everything in your control to ensure that everything else in your life apart from the stressful thing in question is making you happy. Feeling good about your life is a nice lil motivator because you know once you've tackled the source of your stress you can get back to the highs and have no more lows. Maintain a positive mindset, because it will really push you through and make you feel more willing to take on the stress, plus it'll make it easier for you to have moments to chill out and stop worrying. Literally all of the above four points I've made have to stem from this - how can you feel good about yourself in your snazzy new jumper if you're not happy? How can you mix in something you love and enjoy if you're not feeling positive about anything? How can you surround yourself with ambitious people if you haven't made an effort to surround yourself with them or to motivate them in return? How can you stop yourself mentally beating yourself up about backseating stuff if you aren't happy enough to do it? Feel like I'm about to start a DMC over here, but in all seriousness, I've found that the happier I am, the less stressed I'll actually feel about the stressful task at hand, the less pressure I'll put on myself to do it, and by not forcing myself I actually feel more willing to tackle the stress and, in this case, sit and revise for hours on end. If something is too good to be true, it's just that. You can't have a life full of highs without the occasional low, so if revision and exam / deadline stress is the only thing I need to worry about in life right now then I'm actually pretty damn lucky.

It's lush to be writing for the blog again, of course posts will continue to be sporadic for the next month but at least now we all know why lol. Vvvv much hoping some of my lil de-stress and chill methods help you out too, let's get through exam season (or ykno, general life stress because when am I not at least 2/10 stressed on a day to day basis) together. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to watch clay tennis and revise.
