Why I’ve Stopped Wearing Foundation (Again)

I’ve mentioned many, many times both here on my blog and over on my YouTube channel that I used to never wear foundation. From the beginning of 2013 until the beginning of 2015 I either went entirely barefaced in terms of my base or only used powder, and later on, BB cream. I don’t remember why I did it, but it did wonders for my skin and although I’ve always had slight little bumps on my forehead, my skin looked pretty much ~flawless~ for those two years, apart from the occasional spot because of TOTM. Anyway, I decided almost a month ago now that I’d stop wearing foundation again, and I wanted to talk you through why I’ve stopped and why you should have a go at being foundation free too. I’ve always, always said that if you don’t wear foundation, you won’t need foundation.

My decision to stop wearing foundation once again came about because I just haven’t been 100% happy with my skin lately. Since the start of the year I’ve been working on building up something of a regular skincare routine which, while only three products are used daily, has given me noticeable results in improving my skin. I’ve never had acne or anything, just the super annoying bumps I described earlier, then your standard occasional blackhead or proper spot. Still, I’m not happy with my skin when I look in the mirror and when I wear (or wore) foundation, a lot of the imperfections were still noticeable, especially those bumps that I hate so. much. So I decided to stop wearing foundation, for a month straight.

Sure, that sounds like I’m cheating a little. It’s not a permanent thing, it’s a month long thing. And I did wear foundation for an hour last week and will do so again tomorrow for an hour, because of something exciting going on that I can’t share yet and has nothing to do with my blog but is exciting nonetheless. Then I’ve got to wear it for a few hours another day this next week but you get the principle of the thing, and that’s nothing in comparison to my usual daily ten to fifteen hour wear.

Since I’m currently in a month long study leave / half term holiday period in one, I’ve chosen not to wear any foundation for that entire month and for my first proper day wearing it again to be my first day back for the Summer term. While it’s only a month, it’s already helping my skin a lot and yes, the bumps are still there, but my skin hasn’t been problematic or anything at all. Plus, if I can do a whole month without wearing foundation, then when the month is up I can have days where I don’t wear any foundation again.

So, yes, it’s only a month. But it’s been three weeks so far and it’s already helped my skin a lot. Plus it cuts down my getting ready time in the morning which is always a bonus, and it’s encouraged me to stop wearing foundation so often when this month is up.

I’d definitely recommend setting yourself a little challenge not to wear foundation for a week, a month, as long as you please. You’ll definitely notice a difference!
